Checked the number of seats a couple of days prior and saw only 3 seats remaining in Business Class so wasn't optimistic of having our bid accepted.
Checked the Qantas app that morning and it said "Bid unsuccessful". So I was pleasantly surprised to receive the email about 3.5hrs before the flight saying your upgrade offer was accepted.
The minimum bid was $170 AUD per person and ours was accepted at $190 AUD!
New boarding passes issued in the app and we were able to select seats 1D&F.
Lounge access was straightforward. Staff pleasant. Food selection was ok. They transitioned from breakfast options (egg, sausages, beans, breads) to lunch options (soup, sandwiches) during our stay.
Toilets were spacious and clean.
Most disappointing aspect of the lounge was this small sign on the bar which stated it didn't open until midday! So no alcohol before noon. Haven't experienced this in any lounge before.
Boarded first and seamlessly.
On board and the crew were very welcoming. Campbell was name of the gentleman working number 1 on our flight and he worked very hard all flight.
A chicken curry or mozzarella salad was offered. Opted for the chicken curry which was generous and tasty accompanied by warm sour dough bread. Still or Sparking water and wine offered with the meal and a bar of milk chocolate. Wine was topped up without request throughout the short flight.
On board WiFi was excellent and surprisingly fast.
Seat was possibly the widest you will get anywhere 24" and very comfortable with a leg rest.
Overall a 10/10 for value for upgrade with Qantaslink
